I think the poster "STOP HURTING YOUR SELF" means that you should not make your life miserable and start thinking about your future, to succeed.
A kid hurts him/herself when they fail classes, cheat, ditch or get drunk at school, they are hurting themselves because on the future they are going to suffer and have humongous problems. They affect others because we care about each other.
